Giovanna (Tripoli) Maggiore, 77, beloved wife of the late Sebastiano Maggiore, passed away peacefully, Monday, September 5, 2016, at her home in Avon surrounded by her children, son in law, and daughter in law. Giovanna lived a full and beautiful life. Born on June 25th, 1939 in Augusta, Sicily, she was one of six children born to Sebastiano and Carmela. Giovanna learned independence at an early age. In the early morning hours she would ride her bicycle to the baker's to make bread and wait for it, so that she could bring it back to her family at breakfast. She also helped to raise her nieces and nephews and was adored by all of them. As a young woman Giovanna learned to make bobbin lace and weaved stunning pieces that would be applied to fine linens for young brides. In 1968 Giovanna met the love of her life and it was love at first sight for them both. They were married within the year and soon gave birth to their daughter Lucia, and five years later to their son Antonio. Her years living and raising her children in Puerto Rico were some of the most colorful and joyous of her life. Giovanna traveled the world, enjoying most of all meeting new people and exploring local flavors and customs. She was a talented and passionate cook, an avid gardener, a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. Those who knew her well will miss her warmth and openness, her sense of humor, her candor, her detailed and impassioned recollection of her family's history and her generosity. Her spirit lives on in the way she touched the lives of those who knew her, even briefly, and she will be greatly missed. Giovanna leaves behind her son Antonio Maggiore and his wife Cecilia of Flanders, NJ; her daughter and caregiver Lucia Maggiore Rome and her son in law Marc Rome of Bloomfield; as well as her greatest treasures, her two beloved grandchildren Lucas Sebastian Rome and Alessandro Sebastiano Maggiore. Family, friends and all who knew her are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday September 10th, 2016 at 2 o'clock, at the Church of Saint Patrick, 110 Main Street, Farmington. The family will travel to Melilli, Sicily where she will be laid to rest with her husband. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be made to the Gynecologic Cancers Program Fund at Smilow Cancer Hospital, YNHH Development, P.O. Box 1849, New Haven, CT 06508. The Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center of Avon is kindly caring for the arrangements.
