Gilberte H. Cyr, 96, of South Windsor, formerly of Newington, passed from this life on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Woodlake at Tolland after a brief illness. Gilberte was born April 9, 1920 and grew up in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada before getting married to the late Louis Cyr, relocating to West Hartford in 1950, and then to South Windsor in 2001. She is survived by her son, Roderique (Rick) Cyr and his wife, Karen Parks of South Windsor, two grandsons, Evan L. Cyr of San Francisco, CA and Andrew N. Parks of West Palm Beach, FL, and a niece-who-was-more-like-a-daughter and her husband, Pauline and Michael Cyr, and their son, Matthew Cyr, all of South Windsor. Gilberte leaves behind many special friends in Newington, South Windsor and Vernon, and literally anywhere she spent time – as she was the consummate "people person". She was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church, Newington and St. Margaret Mary's Church, South Windsor. She loved to travel and most especially the time she and Louis spent in Homestead and Boynton Beach, FL during the early days of their retirement. Gilberte, a.k.a Gibby, Gil, Gilly-Girl was a grateful person for the small, but important things in life, like family, friends and was well known for her love of talking to everyone she met. She and her entire family appreciated the excellent care provided by Welles Country Village and Woodlake at Tolland during the last two years of her life. Family and friends may call at Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor from 4 PM to 7 PM on Friday, August 5. Funeral mass will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, August 6 at St. Margaret Mary's Church, 80 Hayes Road, South Windsor. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in Gilberte's name to St. Vincent De Paul Society, 80 Hayes Rd South Windsor, CT 06074.
