Genevieve (Kapalka) Matula, 97, of Ellington, loving wife of the late Karl J. Matula, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, August 28, 2016. Born in Westfield, MA, the daughter of the late John and Mary (Kuczak) Kapalka, she grew up and lived in Westfield, MA. After her marriage to Karl, they spent the next 25 years in various parts of the country as he made a career serving his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps/U. S. Air Force. They lived in Texas, California, New Mexico and Arkansas where they made many lasting friendships. Genevieve loved quilting, gardening, cooking and baking. She also liked knitting, and her specialty was knitting receiving blankets, afghans, baby booties and bonnets which she gave to family and friends. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her beloved children, John K. Matula and his wife Alice of Carlsbad, CA, and Maria Jan Matula of Ellington and several nieces and nephews. Genevieve was also predeceased by her grandson, Kaz A. Matula.
