Essie B. Grace, 89, of Hartford, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 10, 2018, at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Eutaw, AL on September 20, 1928, daughter of the late Charlie and Gertrude (Thomas) Dunn, she was raised in Eutaw, AL before moving to Hartford to be closer to her family. After graduating from Hartford Public High School, Essie took a position as a machinist at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford where she worked for 29 years until her retirement in 1993. A Hartford resident for over 60 years, Essie was involved in many groups and organizations including the Iota Pelatis Auxiliary, Beta Chapter, Jolly Ten’s Social Club, and the Red Hatters Society. She was a faithful member of Pilgrim Way Baptist Church in Windsor where she also served on the Senior Usher Board and as a member of the Missionary Women’s Ministry. Most of all, she will be remembered as a beloved mother and aunt who loved to help her family in any way possible. She showed tough love but loved none the less. Essie was compassionate, hardworking, and always had a sense of humor. She tirelessly gave to others, even strangers, until her death. Her family will receive friends on Saturday, May 19, 9-10 a.m., followed by a Homegoing Service at 10 a.m., at the Pilgrim Way Baptist Church, 19 Columbia Rd., Windsor. Burial will follow in Mt.
