Eileen (Welte) Harris, 87, of Avon, beloved wife of the late Richard D. Harris, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2017. Born in New Britain, daughter of the late Herbert and Aletha (Boulden) Welte, she was raised there and received her teaching degree from what was then the Teachers College of Connecticut, now CCSU. She had lived in Avon for over 53 years. Eileen loved to entertain, and also enjoyed golf, tennis, and playing cards. She had been a volunteer for FAVARH. She leaves her daughters, June H. Eschert (James) of Avon; Shelley H. Wilson (Paul) of Henniker, NH; a son, John W. Harris of Berlin, OH; eight grandchildren: Maura (Basha), Beth, Abby, Tom, Ashley, Susanna, Katherine, and Hallie; her step-granddaughters, Ashley, Amber and Allyse; her step great-grandaughter Amirah; her adopted grandson, Jovell; a brother, Herbert D. Welte, Jr. (Fanny) of Aneta, ND, a sister-in-law, Helen Welte of Larimore, ND, a brother- and sister-in-law Arthur H. Harris Jr. and Norma Harris; several nieces and nephews, and life-long friends. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sons William and James Harris, a brother, Keith Welte, and a sister, Elizabeth Lund. Her family will receive friends Friday, June 9, 2017 from 5-7 pm at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon. A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 10, 2017, at 10 am at Carmon's followed by burial in Village Cemetery, Collinsville. The Rev. Brian Hardee will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the CCSU Foundation, PO Box 612, New Britain, CT 06050.
