Edward James Bracken, 69, of Ellington, husband of 47 years to Jean Bracken, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2017 at Hartford Hospital. Edward was born September 18, 1948 to the late Joseph and Della (LaFlamme) Bracken. He grew up in East Longmeadow, and would marry his High School sweetheart, Jean Backus. Earning his Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Edward enjoyed a distinguished career, thriving within the same company for over 40 years amidst various ownership changes. He was a devoted husband and father, as well as a loving grandfather. Edward enjoyed playing sports and coaching baseball, basketball, soccer and especially hockey. He was a fan of the Boston Red Sox, Hartford Whalers, Boston Bruins and New England Patriots. Edward is survived by his wife Jean; their sons Dan Thomas Bracken of Bristol, Kevin Patrick Bracken, of West Hartford; grandchildren Arayana Marie Bracken, Jackson Edward Bracken, Alexandra Grace Bracken; lifelong friends, Mike Falzerano and Walt Bak; as well as his "3rd son" Jesse Conway, his wife Kate and their daughters Caroline, Olivia and Lilly. Calling hours are being held at Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon from 9 am - 12pm on Thursday, November 30, 2017 with a service at the funeral home starting at 12 noon. Burial will follow at Ellington Center Cemetery, with a reception afterwards until 3pm at St. Luke’s Church. The Bracken family would like to thank the Cardiac Intensive Care team at Hartford Hospital for the extraordinary care provided to both Edward and his family over many years and through very difficult times. In lieu of flowers, donations in Edward’s memory may be made to Hartford Hospital in honor of the nurses who work on Bliss 10i.
