CAREY. Doris G. Carey, 81, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away peacefully on Monday, June 12, 2017. Doris was a longtime resident of Windsor, Connecticut, where she had a long and rich life full of family and friends; she will be dearly missed by many. Doris was born on June 8, 1936 in Manchester, CT to Theresa and Albert Gagliardone. She was married to John J. Carey Jr. from April 17, 1958 until October 6, 2007 when he passed away. She later married Ken Potts, and they were married from February 29, 2012 to the present. Doris graduated from Katharine Gibbs College and began her career as a secretary for Pratt and Whitney in East Hartford, CT. She then was a beloved nursery school teacher for many years at the First Church in Windsor, CT. Doris also volunteered at the First Church and shared her time helping the elderly. Doris was well known as a talented and avid gardener. She was also an amazing cook. Doris will be remembered as being funny, generous, and very kind-hearted. Doris is survived by: her three children, Anne Carey, Jane Carey and John J. Carey III, her granddaughter, Jessica Carey, and her current husband, Ken Potts. She also leaves behind her much-loved dog, Ollie. Relatives and friends are invited to her memorial service, which will be held at the First Church in Windsor, 107 Palisado Avenue, Windsor, CT on Friday, June 16 at 5:30 pm, and a reception will take place next door at Nelson Hall from 6:30-7:30 pm. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Nursery School at the First Church in Windsor, 107 Palisado Ave., Windsor, CT 06095 or Mary's Place, 6 Poquonck Ave., Windsor, CT 06095.
