David M. Howard, Sr., 94 of Windsor, beloved husband of the late Gertrude (Breton) Howard, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 08, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Hartford to the late John and Mary (Lawler) Howard, he lived his entire life in Windsor and served his country proudly with the US Army during WWII. David was a devout catholic and was a member of St. Gertrude Church in Windsor. He played cards every Thursday night with his friends and enjoyed golfing, making birdhouses, birdwatching, woodworking and gardening. But most important was his family and friends who meant everything to him. He is survived by his sons David M. Howard, Jr. and his wife Patricia of Charlestown, RI and Stephen M. Howard and his wife Maura of Oakdale; his daughters, Kathleen M. Walsh and her husband James of Windsor, Patricia O'Rourke and her husband Jack of Windsor and Elizabeth Koehler and her husband Robert of East Granby; his sister Janet Kurlick of Windsor; 16 loving grandchildren and 9 loving great-grandchildren. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his son Christopher J. Howard and six brothers and five sisters. The family would like to express its gratitude to David's friend and physician of 40 years, Dr. Muzibul Chowdhury. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM Saturday, January 11 at St. Gertrude Church, 550 Matianuck Ave Windsor followed by burial with military honors in Windsor Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 10 from 4 PM to 7 PM at the Carmon Poquonock Funeral Home, 1816 Poquonock Ave, Poquonock. Memorial donations may be made in David's name to the American Heart Association, 1 Union St. Suite 301, Robbinsville, NJ 08691-4183.
