David “Beebs” Balon, 83, of Vernon, loving husband of 64 years to Ruth (Gonder) Balon, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, May 17, 2018. Born in Manchester, the son of the late Benjamin and Catherine (Schnoubl) Balon, he grew up and lived in Manchester before moving to Vernon sixty years ago. He was a graduate of Manchester High School, Class of 1953. Prior to his retirement in 1994, David was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford for 36 years. He was an avid sports fan and he enjoyed playing softball and bowling on the Pratt & Whitney Bowling League. He coached and umpired little league baseball. David was a member of the Moose Club, and he loved playing horseshoes. He liked camping and fishing with his family. After his retirement, David drove bus for Hockanum Valley Community Council. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his beloved children, Laurie Lewis and her companion Gary Caron of Lempster, NH, Dave Balon and his companion Roseann Maccio of Enfield, Tom Balon and his wife Peg of Niantic, and Desiree Chase and her husband Keith of Hinsdale, NH; nine loving grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; a sister, Betty Niemczyk and her husband Richie of Vernon, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son-in-law, Brian Lewis, a brother, Bernie Balon, and a sister, Peggy Koehler. His family will receive friends for memorial calling hours on Monday, May 21, 2018 from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 22nd, at 11 a.m. at St. Bridget Church, 80 Main Street, Manchester. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in David’s memory may be made to Hockanum Valley Community Council, Food Pantry, 29 Naek Road #4, Vernon, CT 06066.
