Clifton Williamson Richards, beloved husband of Frieda A. Richards of Windsor, peacefully passed away on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017, while residing at West Hartford Health & Rehabilitation Center in West Hartford. He was a son of the late Robert Richards and Isadora (Williams) Sterling and her husband Everard "Pops" Sterling and a brother to the late Sislyn Cain. Clifton was born in Mt. Providence, Clarendon, Jamaica, W.I. on August 1, 1932 and came to the United States in the late 1960s. He worked in construction as a laborer and was a proud member of Local #230 in Hartford. Clifton loved his family above all things and was a devoted and faithful husband for 38 years to his wife Frieda. He looked forward to the summers when his children traveled from Canada to come and visit him in Connecticut. His greatest pleasures were spending time at home gardening and cooking and playing with his grandchildren. Clifton was a quiet, mild-mannered man who loved God and attended Hope SDA Church in Bloomfield. In addition to his wife, he leaves four children, Renee Simms-Ford of Hartford and Claudette Richards, Novlette Richards, and Ray Charles Richards and their mother Daisy Richards, all of Canada; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; a brother, Gladstone Richards of NYC; a sister, Hertenese Williams of Georgia; a brother-in-law, Lloyd Cain of Bloomfield; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. His funeral will be held on Monday, May 1, 2017 at Hope Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1052 Blue Hills Ave., Bloomfield with viewing from 10-11 a.m., service at 11 a.m. and burial following in Elm Grove Cemetery, Windsor. Pastor Alphod C. Sinclair will be the officiating minister at his service. Carmon Funeral Home of Windsor has care of his arrangements.
