Claire Yvette (Rocheleau) Powers, 92, formerly of Windsor, beloved wife of the late Leonard P. Powers, passed gently from this life on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Vernon Manor in Vernon. Claire was born on January 7, 1922 in Swanton, VT to Rodrigue and Agnes (Trudeau) Rocheleau. She had seven brothers and sisters. As a child she loved all outdoor activities and was especially proud of her standing as a girl scout. The Rocheleau family relocated to Hartford in 1941 when Rodrigue found employment at Fuller Brush. Claire graduated from Hartford Public High School in 1941. In 1942 she was hired by Pratt & Whitney; one of ten women hired for a new pilot program during World War II. It was there that she met and married Leonard, her lifelong sweetheart. They raised their family of seven children in Windsor for over 40 years. Claire was a Communicant of St. Joseph Church in Poquonock and a member and President of Court St. Raymond Catholic Daughters in Windsor. She worked as a banquet manager for Trinity College in Hartford and also Tobacco Valley Inn in Windsor. Later she received her CT State Realtor's License and worked for Red Carpet in Windsor. She also sold Princess House Glass & Linens, Shakely products and Nutrition for Life. She loved to bowl, sew, paint, garden, decorate cakes and travel. Most of all Claire had a deep love and loyalty to her family and reveled in the many family celebrations that they shared together. She is survived by her youngest sister, Gloria Turcott of Lakewood, CA; her children, Susan Bagdadi of Sherman Oaks, CA; Lenore Vyskocil and her husband Robert of Columbia; Brian Powers and his wife Karen of Knoxville, TN; Marilyn Bartlett and her husband Jim of South Windham; Terese Smallidge of Occum and Timothy Powers of Enfield. She also leaves a living legacy in her many beautiful grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. In addition to her husband of over 50 years, Claire was predeceased by her son, Alan Powers in 1962, her brothers, Gerald, Donald and Larry and her sisters, Norma, Eleanor and Estelle. Family and friends may gather at 9:15 a.m. on Monday, September 29, at the Carmon Poquonock Funeral Home, 1816 Poquonock Ave. (Rt. 75), Windsor followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 a.m., at St. Joseph Church, Poquonock. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery also in Poquonock. Claire's family will receive friends on Sunday, September 28, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
