Claire A. Manly, 88, of Windsor, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Kimberly Hall Nursing Home. Born in Bronx, NY to the late Alyre and Beatrice (Girard) Ferland, she was raised in Hartford and has been a Windsor resident since 1969. Claire served her country proudly as a nurse, Lt. JG, with the US Navy during the Korean War and was a past member of St. Ann's Church in Hartford and Gabriel Church in Windsor. She was a graduate of Saint Ann's Catholic School, Hartford High School and St. Francis Nursing School of Hartford, CT. Claire was a member of the CT Nurses Association and had a 47 year career in Nursing. Claire was the former Associate Director of Nurses at the Hebrew Home for the Aged, Nursing Supervisor at Doctors General Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, before her retirement from Kimberly Hall Nursing Home as a Nursing Supervisor. Her family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Kimberly Hall, Masonicare Partners Hospice and to Comfort Keepers for their compassionate care of Claire. She is survived by her sons, Alan Manly and his wife Nancy of Windsor, and Bruce Manly of Old Saybrook; her sister Therese Cymerys; her sister-in-law Gunilla Ferland; her grandchildren, Alia Breitengross and her husband Scott, Philip Manly, Evan Manly, Trevor Manly, Eric Manly and his wife Cassandra, Elizabeth Manly, Gregory Manly; and her great-granddaughter Brooke. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Richard Ferland and her sister May Reading. Services and a celebration of Claire's life will be held at 10:00 am on July 1st, 2017 at St. John Catholic Church, 161 Main Street, Old Saybrook, CT 06475 Tel: (860) 388-3787, with a reception immediately following at the home of her son Bruce Manly at 3 Rock Ridge Drive, Old Saybrook 06475. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers please make a memorial donation to the Disabled Veterans of America, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
