Cheung-Chui "Jimmy" Cheng, 69, of Vernon, CT, beloved husband of Yuk-Ying (Fong) Cheng died peacefully on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at home, surrounded by his family. He was born on May 15, 1947 in China, son of the late Yu-Wu and Yu-Lin (Chan) Cheng. Cheung married Yuk-Ying in 1972 and immigrated to the U.S. in 1983, settling in Vernon. Cheung owned and operated Gung Ho Restaurant in Colchester, a business he started in 1986 in which regular patrons often called "Jimmy's Place." Although very hard working, Jimmy also enjoyed golf, often playing at Chanticlair Golf Course in Colchester. Jimmy loved spending time with family as well, often traveling with his wife all over the world, in order to see his siblings and their children. At once business savvy and generous, Jimmy often shared his knowledge with others who were in a similar situation. Jimmy was a member of the Lion's Club in Colchester. Along with his wife of over 44 years, Yuk-Ying Cheng, he leaves his children, Eric Cheng of Miami, FL, James Cheng of Somerville, MA and Kristine Cheng of Austin, TX. Jimmy also leaves behind his granddaughter, Marion Cheng, as well as many brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law here and abroad. His family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 30, 2016, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Ladd Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Rd., Vernon. Burial will be private at the request of his family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's The Jimmy Fund at www.jimmyfund.org.
