Charles E. Callahan, 74, of Vernon, beloved husband of Sheila (Camp) Callahan, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 12, 2016. Born in New York, NY to the late Thomas and Mary Margaret (Romus) Callahan, he lived most of his life in Enfield and has been a resident of Vernon for the last 11 years. Charles served his country proudly with the US Navy and as a firefighter with the Hartford Fire Department for 21 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing horseshoes and trips to the casino, but his main focus was his family who will miss him dearly. Besides his wife Sheila of Vernon, he is survived by his son Carl Callahan and his wife Patricia of Enfield; his loving daughter and caretaker Doris Jacques and her husband Donald of Vernon; his brother James Callahan and his wife Angela of Calabash, NC; his grandchildren Marissa, Sarah, Tyler, Jessica and Timothy; and his great-grandchildren Victoria, Kailee, Raegan and Madeline. He also leaves two special nieces and a nephew. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister Mary Louise Raiford and her husband Edward Raiford. His family will receive friends on Monday, May 23 from 4 PM to 7 PM with a prayer service held at 6:30 PM at the Ladd Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Rd Vernon.
