Catherine (Smyth) Collins, 88, of South Windsor, beloved wife of the late Porter A. Collins, died peacefully on Thursday, March 9, 2017, at home surrounded by her family. Catherine was born on December 17, 1928 in Hartford, CT, daughter of the late Alexander and Elizabeth (Mulholland) Smyth. She grew up in Hartford and was married to the love of her life, Porter A. Collins on October 22, 1949, and together they settled in South Windsor over 67 years ago. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Manchester. She was a prayer warrior and steadfast Christian who loved the Lord. Catherine was the proud wife of a farmer who took pride in caring for her family. She loved to bake, sew, knit, and embroider. She was a kind, compassionate and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend who will be greatly missed. When you see a bright red cardinal outside of your window think of Catherine, she had a special place in her heart for cardinals. She leaves her children, Mark A. Collins and his wife Kathi of South Windsor and Deborah Hay and her husband John of South Windsor; her grandchildren, Kevin A. Collins and his wife Jenna, Allen M. Collins, Kaleb T. Frost, Seth A. Collins, John R. Hay, Robert W. Hay, and Ruthanne J. Hay; and three great grandchildren, Ava, Mason, and Lilly. She also leaves her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Dorothy Collins, her sisters-in-law, Charlotte Collins, Cynthia Waldron, and Judith Collins, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Anne, and Kenneth Jones, her brothers-in-law, Sherman Collins, George Collins, and Mervin Waldron. Her family was blessed to have the following doctors in their lives, Dr. Anis-Anwar and staff, Dr. Allan Mayer and staff, Dr. Sun Won and Staff. Her family will receive friends on Sunday, March 12, 2017, from 2 to 5 p.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 13, 2017, 10a.m., at the Church of the Nazarene, 218 Main St. Manchester. Burial will be private in Wapping Cemetery, South Windsor.
