Catherine Ann (Chiaravalloti) Usher, 98, of Vernon, formerly of Tolland, wife of the late Alvin J. Usher, died peacefully on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Fox Hill Center. She was born on August 29, 1919 in Worcester, MA, daughter of the late Paul and Mary (Vallencourt) Chiaravalloti. Catherine was married to Alvin Usher and together they lived in Tolland for almost thirty years. She worked for the University of Connecticut and retired in 1984 after many years of service. Catherine was a communicant of St. Matthew’s Church in Tolland. Her life was centered around her family. She enjoyed cooking and family gatherings. A kind, caring, and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend she will be greatly missed. Catherine, also known as “Kay” to her friends and family, was a strong and proud woman. She cared for the UConn men’s basketball team and QVC. Not necessarily in that order. She leaves her son Ronald F. Usher of Tolland; her grandsons, Brandon Usher (Sarah) of Tolland and Patrick Usher (Jaret) of Acworth, GA; her great grandchildren, Oscar, Gabriel, Emmett, Oliver, and Eli; and her brothers, Joseph Chiaravalloti of Anaheim, CA, and Paul Chiaravalloti of Los Angeles, CA. Also, there are many nieces and nephews in Massachusetts and California that will miss her. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Vincent Chiaravalloti, John Chiaravalloti, and Henry Carroll. Funeral services and burial are private at the request of her family. Catherine’s family would like to thank Dr. Michael Sharon for decades of care, the Tolland Fire Department for many emergency responses to her home, the Vernon Visiting Nurse Association for their care, Hospice for their compassion and the staff at Fox Hill Center for making her time spent there enjoyable. Memorial donations may be made to the Tolland Fire Department and or Vernon VNA. Please visit us at for online condolences and guest book.
