Carolyn (Anderson) Kolwicz, 89, of Tolland, beloved wife of the late Joseph Thaddeus Kolwicz, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Bridgeport, the daughter of the late Helgar and Lorene (Wilson) Anderson, she grew up and lived in Fairfield, and has lived in Tolland since the 60’s. She attended Tuft’s University and earned her undergraduate degree from UCLA. Prior to her retirement, Carolyn was employed as a research analyst for the State of Connecticut. She was previously employed as a research assistant in pharmacology at McKesson and Robbins, and was a research assistant in radio biochemistry at Pfizer Therapeutics Institute. Carolyn was proud of authoring two books, “Once, Please Wear Red For Me,” and “A Tryptic Tale.” Carolyn was a founding member of the Unitarian Universalist Society East in Manchester, and she also was a founding member of the Tolland Junior Women’s Club, and the Tolland Historical Society. She was instrumental in starting the first perceptually handicapped program in the state. Carolyn was a member of the Tolland Board of Education from 1969 - 1975, and was co-chairman of the Tolland Adult Education Program. She was a past president of the Tolland County Art Association, and past president of Chapter 9 The Mended Hearts, Inc. Carolyn is survived by her children, Lorene Toth and her husband Viktor of Woodstock, Alison Jensen of Willington, and Thaddeus Kolwicz and his wife Katherine of Manassas, VA; six grandchildren, Spencer, and Christian Toth, and Melissa and Sarah Jensen, and Thaddeus Jr. and Megan Kolwicz, and several nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was predeceased by her first husband, Milton F. Pellett III, her daughter, Buff Bevan Pellett, and her brother, Donald Anderson. A memorial service to celebrate Carolyn’s life will be held on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Society East, 153 West Vernon Street, Manchester.
