Carol J. Barberi, 90, of Windsor, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, June 9, 2017. Born in Eugene, OR on March 31, 1927, daughter of the late Leland and Mary (Waller) Castor, she was raised in Eugene, OR and was a graduate of Astoria High School, Class of 1944. After high school, Carol studied nursing before moving with her husband, Robert Stack, to Connecticut. Carol lived in Bridgeport for several years before moving to Windsor Locks and later to Hartford and then to Windsor 27 years ago. Carol worked several restaurants in the Hartford area before taking a position at the State of Connecticut Department of Education where she worked for 10 years until her retirement. Carol was extremely intelligent, a hard worker, and did a phenomenal job raising her sons and daughters as a single mother. She loved music and sang in the choir at St. Mary's Church in Windsor Locks for many years. She was a member of the Exchange Club of Windsor and the Hartford Jazz Society and she volunteered during her retirement at SummerWind in Windsor. Carol was a member of Phillips Metropolitan CME Church in Hartford where she also served in the Nurses Ministry. She leaves two sons, Charles F. Barberi and his wife Kim of Windsor, and Matthew Stack of East Hartford; two daughters, Kathryn Davis of Los Angeles, CA and Monica Clifton of Virginia Beach, VA; five grandchildren, Hillary, Christa, Isaiah, Charles, and James; three great grandchildren, Isaiah, Landon, and Trey; and a special friend, Phuong "Phoonie" Nguyen. She was predeceased by her first and second husbands, Robert Stack and Francis Charles Barberi; and a daughter, Sharon Fancher. Her family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 13, 5-6 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 6 p.m., at The Lodge Community Chapel, 130 Deerfield Rd., Windsor. A repast will follow at The Lodge. Burial will be private in St. Mary's Cemetery, Windsor Locks. The family has requested that memorial donations be made to Kimberly Hall, Attn: Recreation Fund, 1 Emerson Dr., Windsor, CT 06095 or to the Windsor Volunteer Ambulance, Inc., P.O. Box 508, Windsor, CT 06095.
