Bruce E. Willard, 77, of Vernon and formerly of South Windsor and East Hartford, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Hartford Hospital with his family at his side. Born in Leominster, MA, the son of the late Everett and Beulah (Saunders) Willard, he grew up in East Hartford and lived in South Windsor before moving to Vernon fifteen years ago. He was a graduate of East Hartford High School, Class of 1957 and he earned his undergraduate degree from Amherst College in Massachusetts, Class of 1961 and he completed his six year teaching certificate at the University of Hartford. Prior to his retirement, Bruce was an English teacher for over 30 years in East Hartford. Bruce enjoyed playing baseball and football and was an exceptional tennis player. He coached Little League Baseball in South Windsor, and he coached football in East Hartford. He liked fishing, doing carpentry work, and staying politically active. Bruce is survived by his two beloved sons, Geoffrey and Brian Willard both of Manchester; his sister, Gail Barone of Columbia; two nieces, Sally and Susan Barone, and a nephew, Al Barone. His family will receive friends for memorial calling hours on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 from 5 – 7:30 p.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon, followed by a funeral service beginning at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be private and at the convenience of his family. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to Foodshare, 450 Woodland Avenue, Bloomfield, CT 06002-1342 or to Tri-Town Shelters, P. O. Box 28, Vernon, CT 06066.
