Bonnie Lynn Pothier, 47, of East Hartland died peacefully on Friday, January 22, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford surrounded by the loving and caring staff of the Oak Hill Mountain Road group home. Born at St. Francis Hospital on March 14, 1968, Bonnie attended Oak Hill School in Hartford, and the Oak Hill Torrington Day Program. Bonnie so enjoyed interactions and contact with people she knew; she laughed with a sly mischievous smile; she greeted friends with strong bear-like hugs; and she loved music with a strong beat to swing to. In 1987, when a new group home opened in East Hartland, Bonnie moved in, beginning a shared life with five housemates, supported by a skilled and loving support staff. Hers was a life filled with meaningful community experiences, and adventures. The staff planned seasonal parties at the Mountain Road home, families joining in for Halloween and Christmas and summer outdoor cook-outs. There were the summer vacation trips to Old Orchard Beach, and Cape Cod, as well as Camp Harkness, and tent camping at People's State Forest. Each summer Bonnie joined in the festivities of the incomparable Hartland Fireman's Carnival, which brought with it the smells and boisterous laughter of the East Hartland community. Then, there was the bustle of the Big E, with roller coaster rides; apple picking and hayrides at Flamig Farm; and swimming at McLean's pool. Bonnie's life was rich with joy and adventure. Kathy Morgan of Granby, Bonnie's guardian, is very grateful to the cadre of Oak Hill Mountain Road group home staff and the Torrington day program staff who over the nearly 30 years provided dedicated personal care and attention to Bonnie, within a loving family environment. Bonnie's family also wishes to express heartfelt thanks to the East Hartland/Granby Volunteer EMT services and the St. Francis Cardiac ICU staff for their skilled care and support. A Celebration of Bonnie's life will be held on Thursday, February 11, at 11AM, at the South Congregational Church, 242 Salmon Brook St., Granby. Her family will receive friends prior to the service on Thursday, February 11, 9:30-10:30 a.m., at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby. Burial in East Hartland Cemetery will be in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Bonnie's name to the Granby Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 617, Granby, CT 06035.
