Annie Louise Smith, 92, of Bloomfield, beloved wife for 48 years of the late General B. Smith, Sr., passed away peacefully on Monday, May 7, 2018, in Bloomfield. Born in Gray, GA on October 23, 1925, daughter of the late Willie Bland Thurman and Emma (Grier) Thurman, she was raised in Gray, Georgia, attended schools in Jones County, GA, and moved to Hartford in 1953 and then to Bloomfield in 1958. After working at JJ Newberry in Hartford for a brief time, Annie stayed home for several years and raised her five children. After they were in school, she returned to work at the JM Ney Company in Bloomfield where she worked for over 20 years until her retirement in 1993. An expert seamstress, Annie loved to sew and for many years made clothes for all of her children. She was a long-time dedicated member of the Sanctuary of Faith and Glory in Windsor. Although she was very small in stature, she was very outspoken and had a large presence wherever she went. Most of all, Annie will be remembered as a wife and mother who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, taking long drives to visit local attractions and parks throughout the Northeast, cooking for family for family parties and get togethers, and relaxing at her home. She leaves to mourn her passing, five children, General Smith (Euniceteen) of Bloomfield, Calvin Smith (Crystal) of Hartford, David Smith (April) of Manchester, Juanita Mansell of Fountain Inn, SC, and Cheryl Smith-Yisarel of Baltimore, MD; 14 grandchildren, Cynthia Barrett (Hyland) of Windsor, Diane Smith of East Hartford, Donna Smith of Glastonbury, Dwayne Smith of Glastonbury, Kelli McBride of Weatogue, Maisha Smith of Enfield, Darryl Smith of Manchester, Tracey Mansell-Christie (Delroy) of Hartford, Alvin Mansell and his wife Tasha of Jacksonville, FL, Shema Yisarel-Eaton of Baltimore, MD, Sarah Yiseral-Eaton of Baltimore, MD, Sheryl Williams of Middletown, DE, Anthony Williams of Fort Lee VA, and Denisha Vasquez of Manchester; 12 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and a Goddaughter, Gwendolyn Johnson of Bloomfield. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Leonard Farley; and a granddaughter, Michelle Mansell. Her family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 15, 10-11 a.m., followed by a Homegoing Service at 11 a.m., at the Sanctuary of Faith & Glory, 752 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Memorial donations may be made to the Sanctuary of Faith & Glory, 752 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor, CT 06095.
