Annetta M. Merlino, 97, of West Hartford, beloved wife of the late Sebastian Merlino, passed away, Thursday, November 17, 2016, at her home. Born in Hartford, daughter of the late Anthony and Madeline (Sansabrino) Mauriello, she was a lifelong resident with a career with the City of Hartford that spanned over 30 years. She leaves a sister Raimonda Tobin of West Hartford; a niece Denise F. Nelson; a nephew Joseph Tobin, Jr., and her goddaughter Reah Kittelberger. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a sister Gloria Nelson and a brother George Mauriello. Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial, Monday, November 28, 2016, at 10 am directly at Saint Patrick-Saint Anthony Church, 285 Church Street, Hartford. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. There are no calling hours. The Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center of Avon is caring for the arrangements. Annetta's career began at the Aetna Fire Insurance Co. where she held various positions. She then spent several years as the office manager at J. Angrisani, Co. In 1949, she began her career with the City of Hartford first with the City Court, later rising to Risk Manager with the responsibility for insurance administration for the entire city of Hartford. She was past president of the CT Valley Chapter of American Society of Insurance Managers, past president of the Hartford Chapter of the National Secretaries Association, past president of the Business & Professional Women's Club of Hartford; and a past member of the Career Board of G. Fox & Co. She also had been a member of the Greater Hartford Community Council, Chairman of the State of CT Women's Division, US Treasury Dept.; US Savings Bond Division. She was Hartford Campaign Chair for the American Cancer Society and served on the Boards of St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary and the Hartford Rehabilitation Center. Active in politics, she was Past Executive Secretary of Young Democrats of the State of Connecticut, and a member of the Hartford Federation of Democratic Women. Annetta was known for her poise and elegant style and her life-long interest in music and the arts. She collected antiques, wrote poetry, and had a flair for interior decorating. Her interests included playing the piano, reading Vanity Fair from cover to cover, and solving crossword puzzles. Annetta was a patient, appreciative aunt – her kindness complemented by a sharp sense of humor.
