Anne Marguerite (Murphy) Geitz, 90, of Suffield and Simsbury CT, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2017. Anne was born in Lawrence, MA on December 11, 1926 to the late Joseph and Mary (Dowd) Murphy. After growing up in Lawrence, Anne attended Simmons College in Boston where she received a Bachelor's degree in Library Science. Anne met her husband, Robert (Bob) Geitz, while working in Boston as research librarian for the New England Council. Anne and Bob were married in 1952. During the early years of their marriage Anne and Bob lived in Demarest, NJ, Darien, CT, Simsbury, CT, and Longmeadow, MA – finally settling in Suffield, CT. They resided in Suffield for 35 years, wintering in Naples, FL for the last 15, until returning to Simsbury in 2007 to live at McLean. Anne was a devoted mother to five children. She had a keen intellect and a passion for reading. After all of her children were in school, she returned to college and received a Master's degree in Education from the University of Massachusetts. She shared her love of reading with several generations of young students, serving as the Elementary School Librarian and Media Specialist in Suffield. She also served on the Suffield Democratic Town Committee and the Suffield Zoning Board of Appeals. Anne loved to travel with her husband Bob. They explored Europe, the Middle East, and towns and cities all over the United States including Hawaii and Puerto Rico. They also stayed for an extended time in central Mexico. In her spare time Anne enjoyed history, listening to 50's Broadway show tunes, attending plays, movies, gardening and spending time with family. In her later years, Anne fought a heroic battle with Parkinson's disease. She lived the last eight years of her life at McLean in Simsbury where she gave and received compassion, love and kindness. Anne leaves her children, Robert Geitz (Kit Devereaux) of New Canaan, CT, Sarah Geitz of Washington, DC, Martin Geitz (Brenda) of Glastonbury, CT, Kurt Geitz (Lynne) of Sudbury, MA, and Carl Geitz (Nancy) of South Hadley, MA and her grandchildren Anne Geitz; Elliott and Lillian Grabill; Alexandra, Henrietta, and Charles Geitz; Amelia, Nathaniel, and Caleb Geitz; and Olivia, and Samuel Geitz. She was predeceased by her husband, and by her sister, Marie Cleary. Anne's children wish to thank the wonderful caregivers at McLean for their many years of extraordinary attention to all of their mother's needs. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 24, 2017 from 4pm to 6pm at the Carmon Funeral Home, 301 Country Club Road in Avon, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Anne's life will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 10:30 AM at St Catherine of Siena Church, 265 Stratton Brook Road, West Simsbury, CT. Entombment in the Sycamore Columbarium, Simsbury Cemetery, will occur at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research or the McLean Foundation, 75 Great Pond Road, Simsbury, 06070. The Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center of Avon is caring for the arrangements.
