Anna Regina (Brischler) Root, 99, of Bronx, NY, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2016 in Riverdale, NY. Anna was born in DuBois, PA to the late Joseph and Agatha (Schwarz) Brischler. She was a devoted wife to John (Jack) Root prior to his passing in 1999. Anna grew up in the Throgg's Neck section of the Bronx before moving to Hastings-on-Hudson, NY after her marriage. In 1942, Anna and Jack relocated to the Riverdale section of the Bronx. During the 1940's, she studied art at the Pratt Institute in New York and under the accomplished artists James Lechay, WPA artist Moses Soyer, and Amédée Ozenfant, founder of the Purist movement and the Ozenfant School of Fine Arts in New York City. Anna was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Anna enjoyed listening to country music, watching tennis, reading and she did beautiful crocheting and sewing work. She is survived by her daughter Elaine Abrahams of Manhattan, NY; her son Greg Root and his wife Jan of South Windsor; her sister Louise Brischler of Holtsville, NY; her grandchildren Dr. Heather Abrahams of RI, Beckie Correale and her husband Derek of South Windsor, Jon Murphy-Root and his wife Ebony of Whittier, CA; her great grandchildren Jaden Gitlow, Kylie and Claire Correale; her brother-in-law Edward Conrad and his wife Priscilla of Silver Spring, MD and a sister-in-law Marie Brischler of Holtsville, NY along with many nieces and nephews. Aside from her beloved husband Anna was predeceased by her siblings John Brischler, George Brischler, Lillian Brischler and Joseph Brischler. Calling hours are being held on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor, CT from 1 to 4 pm. Burial will be private at the request of her family.
