Ann Zalt, 92, of East Granby, beloved wife for 69 years of Stanley Zalt, passed away October 3, 2008 in Hartford. She was born in Broad Brook to the late Julia Dovieka and Joseph Mekalosky. Ann graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1934 and married Stanley the following year. A devoted and caring homemaker, Ann also worked for Royal Typewriter for 18 years. Ann was a spectacular chef and baker who enjoyed sharing her delicious Lithuanian recipes and homemade, hand-decorated wedding cakes with others. She was a devout Catholic and a life-long communicant of St. Bernard Church in Tariffville where she was also a member of the Ladies Guild. Ann was a member of St. Casimir’s Society and had volunteered at Friend-to-Friend Thrift Store in East Granby. She was a generous spirit with a kind heart who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Ann Zalt is preceded in death by her beloved husband Stanley, her parents and two sisters, Mary LaBua and Julia Loscalzo. She leaves to treasure her memory, daughter Betty Ann Hayden and her husband Jim of East Granby; a grandson Ivan Hayden of East Granby; a cousin Nellie Kerbelis of South Windsor; four nieces, Mary Ann Loscalzo of Miami, FL, Louise Carlson and Carla Boland, both of Vernon, and Roberta Carlson of Andover; and a nephew Bill Loscalzo of Bethel. Ann’s family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the nurses and staff at Kettle Brook Care Center, St. Francis Hospital Unit 7-2, Hartford Hospital Bliss 5 and VITAS Hospice.
