Ann (Homer) Brown, 84, of South Windsor, beloved wife of Richard E. Brown, died peacefully on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, surrounded by her family. She was born on January 7, 1932 in Cincinnati, OH, daughter of the late Roy A. and Isabelle (Townsend) Homer. Ann grew up in Cincinnati, OH, graduated from Madeira High School with the Class of 1950, and went on to attend the University of Cincinnati. Ann married the love of her life, Richard E. Brown, on November 28, 1953 and together they lived in Charleston, WV, before settling in South Windsor in 1962. Ann was an active member of Wapping Community Church for over 54 years and participated in the prayer shawl ministry and the meeting house ministries. Ann worked as a librarian in the South Windsor Public Schools for many years. The matriarch of her family, Ann was a wonderfully loving and kind caregiver to her near and extended circles. With her optimistic outlook and her capacity to show unconditional love, she always put her family and friends before herself. Ann was an extraordinary grandmother and cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren. Along with her husband Richard of 63 years, she leaves her daughter, Nancy Brown Wentzell and her husband John of Westborough, MA, her son, Richard Yonezuka-Brown and his wife Anastasia of Bridgewater, NJ; her brother, John T. "Pete" Homer (Emma Wittmeyer) of Loveland, OH, her sister, Patricia Homer (Gretchen LaGodna) of Lexington, KY; her grandchildren, Peter B. Wentzell of Westborough, MA and Jack E. Wentzell of Orlando, FL; and two brothers-in-law, Ben Brown and his wife Margaret of Hollis, NH and Bob Brown and his wife Jill of Parrish, FL. She was predeceased by her brothers, Roy Homer Jr. and Frank Homer and his wife Carol. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, 10 a.m., at Wapping Community Church, 1790 Ellington Rd., South Windsor. Burial will follow at Wapping Cemetery in South Windsor. Her family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 4, 2016, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor.
