George H. Slack Obituary

George H. Slack, 90, of West Hartford, previously of Avon, beloved husband of the late Virginia Ann (Lane) Slack, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 18, 2017. Born in Weymouth, MA, son of the late George H. Slack, Sr., and Geraldine (Judge) Slack, he was raised in Weymouth and received both his BA from Suffolk University and his JD from Suffolk University Law School. He served as a sergeant in the Army Air Corp during WWII and as a first lieutenant in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. George began a long and successful career in the insurance industry as a Claims Examiner with Employers of Wausau. He and his family moved to CT in 1965 where he joined the Covenant Group, Security of CT, and retired from the Orion Group as Senior Vice President of the Claims and Loss Division. He was a proud member of the Gildo Consolini Post # 3272 VFW in Avon where he lived for over 27 years. He leaves two daughters Elizabeth Gagne (Bryan) of Hartford and Katherine Conway (Kevin) of West Hartford; two sons Christopher Slack (Theresa Conneely) of Wethersfield and Kevin Slack (Kathleen) South Hamilton, MA; grandchildren Sarah and Patrick Walsh, Lisa Gagne, Maura and David Johnson, Michael Conway, Vanessa Slack, Brendan Slack, and Michael Villano; two great grandsons Jonathan and Nicholas Walsh; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife Virginia, he was predeceased by his identical twin brother Gerald Slack. George's family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. Steven Cohen and Dr. Husnaim Kermalli as well as the nurses and staff of Floor 6/2 at St. Francis Hospital for their exceptional care. Private Family services will be held Monday, May 22, 2017 at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery with Military Honors.
